Spaghetti & Meatballs Cake

I made this cake for a birthday party. It got a lot of laughs!

Here's how I did it:

I made a 10" two layer Chocolate Truffle cake with Chocolate Truffle filling and set it in a large shallow bowl. I spread more of the filling over the top of the cake just to make it even richer! I then covered the cake with Buttercream Frosting (I used butter to get the spaghetti color) using a #5 tip. It took 2 batches of icing, but I think my recipe makes a smaller amount than the Wilton recipe, so you might get by with one batch. I built it up a little bit in the center.

The spaghetti sauce is strawberry jam with a little yellow gel and white coloring. Just add a small amount of color, then mix together. You may have to add a little more color to get the affect you want and if you add too much, just add a little more jam. You really can't mess it up!

The meatballs are truffles, the ones with the crunchy stuff on the outside. After it was all put together, I grated a little white almond bark over the top.

Enjoy!

  5. Can I please ask a question....I am attempting to make this wonderful cake, but - when you put the "cake" into the bowl - do you flour or grease the bowl first, or just put the cake directly in it.

    Thank you so much!!

  6. Hi Anonymous! You just set the baked cake into your bowl - no need to do anything else. Then, if you want, put a layer of icing on it, then the noodles. Feel free to email me at hardworkingrma@gmail.com if you need anything else.

  7. This is the best spaghetti and meatballs cake I have seen! And trust me, I have looked at plenty getting ready to make mine. One question though, when using the strawberry jam, did you warm it up to make it pouring consistency? Did you then add the colorings after it was warm (if it was)? Thank you!

  8. I don't remember warming it up. It was probably at room temperature. Good luck!!

  9. Hi how could you get the spaghetti the right colour if you didn't want to use butter?

  10. I would probably try a bit of ivory color and maybe add a little yellow. Just play with it a bit until you get the color you want. Good luck!!

  11. What kind of bowl did you use? I am a decorator. My daughter and I always make her birthday cake together. She had already decided on this design, I LOVE the bowl idea! Where did you get your bowl?

  12. The bowl I used is one I've had around for years. It's just a large shallow bowl. Nothing special. It's about 14" x 4". Let me know how it goes!!
