Day 1 Challenge - The Junk Drawer!

I've decided to join the Getting Organized Challenge! Click on the Bowl Full of Lemons button in the side bar to see the post and join.

At first, I wasn't going to do it because I KNOW it will take me more than 21 days to get organized. It will take me 21 days just to get my office up to speed! But I decided it would at least be a good start!

Day 1 Challenge - Organizing the "junk" drawer.

So here are pics of my drawer, uh, drawers!! I have four "junk" drawers that need help. But they're small drawers and it's not all junk!

First, this is the drawer designated for my husband. It's a small drawer located in the kitchen, so I gave it to him as a place to unload his pockets when he comes home from work. I would rather have it in the laundry room where he first comes in, but there are no drawers in there and there's really no convenient place to put a container for him in there. So the kitchen drawer it is. And if he didn't have that particular drawer, he would just empty his pockets on the counter just above the drawer. That's what he did before I gave him the drawer!!

As you can see, it was intended to be organized! I have containers for everything, it's just that everything has kind of overflowed to the bottom of the drawer. And all those pens and pencils should be in the office.

Here is the after pic! I found a couple little square gift boxes that are doubling as organizers since I couldn't find anything else to fit the space. Once I had put everything that shouldn't have been in the drawer where it should be, it all looked so much better!

Next is my tool drawer. It's where I like to keep things that I use often. Screwdrivers, nails, a hammer, tape measure, etc.

And after!

Then there's the drawer below that one where I keep my glue guns and whatever else won't fit in the drawer above!

And after. It's still not as neat looking as I would like, but at least all the glues, glue guns and glue sticks are in the same drawer now!

Last, but not least, is the drawer at the bottom of the stack where I keep flashlights and batteries.

And after!

And while I was doing all this, my husband got busy and installed a new stainless steel sink in my kitchen! So after he finished, I cleaned and organized under the sink. Now I can fit my tool box under there instead of buried on a shelf in the laundry room!

All this after I went to all my favorite thrift stores this morning - the ones that were open, that is!!

Have a Happy (and organized) New Year!
